Independence of the Seas
December 2009

Following our adventure on the inaugural cruise of the Oasis of the Seas, we went back ashore at Ft. Lauderdale, met up with our traveling companions, The Moores, and boarded the Independence of the Seas the following morning.  This was our first time on a Freedom class ship.  Honestly, there was very little about a Freedom ship that you also can't find on a Voyager class ship.  But either are superior to the Radiance class and eclipsed by the Oasis!

This was the first time that all the ports that we visited we had visited previously.  Based on what guides told us, hurricanes had seriously damaged the infrastructure at Costa Maya and Playa Del Carmen/Cozumel.  In both cases, our ship was one of the first to visit these ports in several years.

We also tried out one of the specialty restaurants on the Independence (Chops Grille).  As good as the food is generally, the experience and the food Chops Grille was out of this world.  I live outside of Kansas City, and have decent access to good beef.  I think the steak at Chops may have been one of the best that I've ever had.  Although we were treated to the experience (thanks, Sarah and Lee) I very happily would have paid the $25 to experience that again.
