San Juan, Puerto Rico

Clear and smooth sailing from St. Thomas to Puerto Rico.  We were the only ship in the harbor of Old San Juan.  Somehow, in my studies I missed the detail that the old fortified city of San Juan is a small island off the coast of Puerto Rico, rather than a harbor on the mainland.

We arranged to take the Casa Bacardi Rum Distillery and Old San Juan Tour -- a very good choice.  We started with a short trip through old San Juan and a tour of the fortification of San Cristóbal.  The fort is very impressive and very well preserved.  One could easily spend several hours at this fort alone!  We went on to the Bacardi Rum Distillery outside of New San Juan.  The tour is very informative and a great opportunity to get a couple of free mojitos!

Due to our tour guide's obsession with the hotels of new San Juan, we only had about one hour to shop in what seemed to be a wonderful shopping district.  I hope that Royal Caribbean figures out a way to extend the shore time in Puerto Rico.  It is a wonderful place to visit.
